Updates will be live August 16th by 11:00am PT.
Welcome to our next variety patch! We’ve received some feedback that it’s a bit hard to quickly see which changes affect Standard and which affect Eternal. We’ve separated them into two sections for this patch!
Last variety patch we were light on Standard changes, but this time we want to make sure we dethrone Sump Monument and some other meta decks so the meta can continue to evolve alongside Eternal.
Gameplay System Updates
New Cards
Divine Draft
Crystalline Stormraptor
Piercing Lightning
Tidal Invocation
Proliferating Darkwraith
Crimson Banquet Hall
Mister Thrift
Cosmic Call
Airis
Balen the Benevolent
Valley of Imitation
Card Adjustments
STANDARD
Nerfs
Champion's Strength
Old: 9c, Give allies +4|+4 this round. If you have the attack token, give them Scout, otherwise Rally.
New: 8c, Give allies +4|+4 this round and Rally
When allowing for two +4|+4 attacks in a single turn, Champion's strength was too strong at decisively ending games.
Sump Monument
Old: 3c, Plant 4x Shrooms
New: 4c, plant 5x Shrooms
The Zaunite Immortality program caused a monumental shift in the meta—we're making it slower and more lethal to make it more difficult for the Sump to steal games.
Condense
Old: 2c
New: 3c
We're happy that condense has brought more exciting finishers into the meta, but we're pushing it up slightly to make your second copy of Riptide Rex a little less free.
Swain
Old: Level up: 12+ non combat damage
New: Level up: 16+ non combat damage
As the card pool has deepend, Swain's level up condition has slowly gone from "a mild inconvenience" to "somewhat trivial". This change aims to push you towards playing more damage if you want to have Swain's tyrannical level 2 online by round 5.
Purifying Flames
Old: Grant an ally in hand +3|+3 and another +2|+2
New: Grant 2 allies in hand +2|+2
Hopefully, the removal of a few stats will bring this card down a notch and keep those pesky Elusives in check.
Editor’s Note: Elusives are too good with stat buffs, more news at 11.
Pirouette
Old: 2c Plunder: Reduce cost by 1
New: 3c Plunder: Reduce cost by 2
Pirouette has been running circles around both Standard and Eternal. This change aims to bring down Pirouette's power as a control tool and plunder enabler and reserve its massive tempo swings for decks willing to go the extra mile to enable it.
Editor’s Note: Tempo.
Fish Fight
Old: 2c
New: 3c
This is aimed at trimming some power from Jax / Ornn and Vayne / Aatrox which have both been meta staples for quite some time. Single-sided strikes are extremely powerful, especially in decks that excel at trivializing their conditions.
Lord Broadmane
Old: 3|5
New: 3|4
6 Mana backrow units that kill something when they enter play really don't need or deserve a 5th point of health.
Vaults of Helia
Old: 4c
New: 5c
The Nasus / Vaults of Helia deck has been a meta staple for some time—this aims to make them a little more interactable by moving back the clock on Vaults.
Squeaker
Old: 2|2
New: 1|2
Aggressive discard decks have burned a hole in the meta—we're targeting some of their early board presence and impact access to dial back their immense reach.
Editor’s Note: Our legal team has thrown the book at Squeaker and this is the price he’s paid for our extended extortion. After being progressively buffed, we’ve cornered him. Don’t be a squeaker because we will find you.
Return-o Wrench
Old: Grants Impact
New: Grants +0|+1
Fleet Admiral Shelly
Old: Attune
New: Not Attune
Fleet Admiral Shelly is a war kwiminal with over :) 300 confirmed kwills :). They cannot be twusted with spell mana.
Buffs
Warlord's Palace
Old: Countdown 9
New: Countdown 8
Akshan hasn't been a meta presence for a while now, and bringing Momentous Choice back down to a single spell opens up space for to get back into action.
Warlord's Horde
Old: Countdown 9
New: Countdown 8
Poro King
Old: Level up: You've summoned 6+ other new poros
New: Level up: You've summoned 6+ other new poros. When I level up, create a special snax in hand.
The meta hasn't exactly given the Poro King a royal welcome, so we're giving him more consistent access to his fancy snacks to help him establish his reign.
Frosted Snax
Old: Frostbite an enemy with 3 or less health
New: Frostbite an enemy
Blimp Pack Poacher
Old: 2|2
New: 2|3
This change aims to establish Blimp Pack Poacher as more of a threat to help expand the pool of reasonable ambush targets.
Bristlehog
Old: Once an ally has transformed this game, grant me +1|+1.
New: The first time an ally transforms, grant me +2|+1.
This is aimed at making Nidalee's ambushing friends more cohesive—a stronger payoff for a more stringent conditional should encourage playing more of the brush shadows together.
Riven (Level 2)
Old: Each round, the first time you increase my Power, increase it by twice the amount
New: Each round, the first time you increase my Power, grant me that much Power
This is a small quality of life buff for Riven to make her more satisfying and synergistic with effects like equipment.
Nami (Level 1)
Old: Level Up: You've gained 7+ spell mana
New: Level Up: You've played 6+ spells with an allied Nami in play
It was clear that giving health on her level 2 was vital to making Nami's pattern work, but having Nami routinely enter play leveled made that strategy too potent. This change aims to bring back the satisfaction of OG Nami while giving the opponent more room to interact with her.
Editor’s Note: Will the Nami wave surge once again?
Nami (Level 2)
Old: When you play a spell, grant +2|+0 to the weakest other ally that isn't Immobile
New: When you play a spell, grant +2|+1 to the weakest other ally that isn't Immobile
Sun Guardian
Old: 2|2
New: 2|3
Now that Crimson Pidgeon and Samira have been tuned down, it seems safe to turn back on the lights.
Dragonguard Lookout
Old: 3|5
New: 5|5
Dragons as a pattern haven't performed well in Ages. These changes aim to bring up a few of their weakest cards to help bring them up to the power level of standard.
Thread the Needle
Old: 3c
New: 2c
This is a small change to help button up Gwen’s play pattern.
Strafing Strike
Old: Heal 2
New: Heal 5
This is part of the Dragon changes. Hopefully with these changes they don’t just boulder right through the gates.
Editor’s Note: Legend has it that a third boulder’s gate has been constructed recently. This requires investigation.
Shyvana Confront
Old: Grant an ally Challenger
New: Grant an ally Challenger. If it's a dragon, draw 1.
Confront
Old: Grant an ally Challenger
New: Grant an ally Challenger. If it's a dragon, draw 1.
Dawning Shadow
Old: 7c
New: 6c
Senna will have her vengeance.
Rocket Barrage
Old: Deal 3 to an enemy and 1 to others
New: Deal 4 to an enemy and 1 to others
Go-wide decks have had a tendency to take over recent LoR metas. We're looking to improve a handful of anti-aggro tools to help give decks more valid answers against these gameplans.
Eradication
Old: 6c
New: 5c
Adjustments
Jax
Old: Level up: Equipped allies have struck for 12+ total damage
New: Level up: You've attacked with 16+ power of equipped allies
This is intended as a quality of life adjustment for Jax that shouldn’t affect his power level—we hope that being able to get Jax's level 2 stat buff on the attack where you level him will make him more satisfying to play with.
Realm's Caretaker
Old: Yordle
New: Fae
Our Esteemed Yordleologist, Brian, has identified that these creatures are, in fact, not Yordles and rather some sort of mouse creatures best identified as Fae.
Editor’s Note: Profound! The Realms Beyond are most curious indeed. My eyes were deceived as well, I was convinced we were dealing with Yordles!
Portal Scholar
Old: Yordle
New: Fae
ETERNAL
Buffs
Lee Sin
Old: Level up: 10+ spells
New: Level up: 8+ spells
We want all champions to live their best lives in Eternal, even those with Sins as grievous as Lee's.
Withering Mist
Old: 5c
New: 4c
Aggro has been one of the most potent archetypes in Eternal so we're making changes to a handful of cards to give more regions the ability to fight back.
The Fangs
Old: 2|2
New: 3|2
Eggnivia
Old: 0|1
New: 0|2
For this change (and many of the following), we aren't expecting them to make an immediate meta impact—rather, we're just trying to let cards in eternal be the best forms of themselves and make them feel more exciting when seen in Path of Champions or are randomly generated.
Thorny Toad
Old: 2c, 1|4
New: 2c, 3|1
Yone
Old: 7c
New: 6c

Adjustments
Vladimir
Old: Attack: Deal 1 to each ally to my right to deal that much to the enemy nexus
New: Play: Deal 1 to any number of allies to deal that much to an enemy
Vladimir has struggled to make a splatter for quite some time so we're giving him a new play effect to help him interact with the board and level more consistently.
Vladimir 2
Old: Attack: Deal 1 to each ally to my right to drain that much to the enemy nexus
New: Play: Deal 1 to any number of allies to deal that much to an enemy.
Attack: Deal 1 to each ally to my right to drain that much to the enemy nexus.
Crimson Pact
Old: Deal 1 to each ally to Vladimir's right to deal that much to the enemy nexus
New: Deal 1 to any number of allies to deal that much to an enemy
Competitive
The last Runeterra Open of this Split will be Eternal to go along with Eternal Ranked! Join the fray on 9|2 - 9|3!
The field has now been set for competitors in the Mystery Event. That means winners of future Runeterra Opens will no longer qualify for the event. We’re working on getting the logistics and structure of the event together, so expect more details on the event in the coming months.
System Update
Emporium
Welcome to Legend of Runeterra’s new shop, personalized to YOU! Emporium features four different types of offers, from Common to Legendary, with a mix of Green Shards, Coins, and Stardust purchase options.
Editor’s Note: More on Stardust later! It’s a shiny new currency!
Emporium FAQ
Q: Will I be able to obtain cosmetics that were special event cosmetics, including items from previous battle passes?
A: Yes! These items have a chance to appear in your Emporium. The most sure-fire way to get a cosmetic from the battle pass is to purchase it when it’s live and active.
Q: Are battle pass items available right away in the Emporium?
A: No. In order to maintain the prestige of the Battle Pass, items will have a cooldown period before they can appear in your Emporium. You’ll be able to show off that you unlocked it first for a bit!
Q: How will battle pass items be priced when they appear in the Emporium?
A: TLDR is that it will be much cheaper to buy a cosmetic via the battle pass. You’ll have a chance to snag it in the Emporium in the future, but it’ll cost more!
Q: I don’t play Path of Champions, will I still get PoC items in my Emporium?
A: Sometimes! But your Emporium will be heavily weighted to reflect how you play. If you don’t play Path much, Path specific offers will appear less often. If you only play Path, more will show up!
Q: Will cosmetics gained from competition such as Runeterra Opens, or Gauntlets appear in the Emporium?
A: No. These are indicators of your accomplishments and won’t be obtainable via the Emporium.
Q: How often does the Emporium update?
A: There are different tiers of rarity, each with their own update frequency. Check out your own Emporium and see the handy timers that show you when the next reset is coming.
