New Expansion: Heart of the Huntress

“Love takes as many shapes as you do, Neeko.”

Teased long ago in our 2023 Roadmap, Neeko is finally coming to Legends of Runeterra! Neeko along with Nidalee and Poro King introduce a lot of new ways to play the game. The Soul Fighter event is sure to impress. Log in to play Heart of the Huntress, playable on June 28th at approximately 11:00AM PT.

NEW VOCAB: AMBUSH

Can be played hidden if you have no other hidden Ambush allies. Hidden allies are 2 cost 2|2s. You may pay a hidden ally’s Ambush cost to transform it into its base card.

NEW VOCAB: DISGUISE

Secretly transforms into another unit before entering play. They won’t reveal their true identity to your opponent until they leave play or Level Up.

NEW ORIGIN: MANY-SHAPED JUNGLE FRIENDS!

You may put Bird, Cat, Dog, Elnuk, Fae, Reptile, and Spider followers into your deck during deckbuilding.

NEW ORIGIN: THE PORO KING’S DECREE

You may put any non-champion cards with the word “Poro” on them into your deck during deckbuilding.

  • Harmony of the Wild
  • Each round, the first ally you play with a different subtype than other allies costs 1 less.

  • Definitely Not Neeko
  • Game Start: For each ally in your deck, if it has a subtype, grant it Impact. Otherwise, it becomes a Shapeshifter.
• Star Power 3:
  • Harmony of the Wild II
  • Each round, the first ally you play with a different subtype than other allies costs 2 less.

Poro King

• Star Power 1:
  • Stronger Together
  • Round Start: If allies have 4+ unique keywords, grant allies +1|+1.

  • Round End: If an ally died this round, grant your weakest ally +1|+1 and a random keyword that allies don't have.
• Star Power 3:
  • Stronger Together II
  • Round Start: If allies have 4+ unique keywords, grant allies +2|+2.

Vault Dupe Protection

Based on feedback we’ve received from the PoC loving playerbase, we’re implementing the following change! We’ve now Implemented duplicate protection on gold and platinum cosmic vaults to ensure that players don’t receive champion fragments for champions that are already maxed out.

Monthly Challenge Adventure

We’ve heard you about the pesky mini-boss icons in the Monthly Adventures! This bug should be buttoned up and fixed with the launch of patch 4.6.

Soul Fighter Event

“Choose your champion and channel your soul power in Viego’s world-famous Tournament of Souls.”

The Tournament of Souls has arrived. The fighters are set and in their places. Don’t miss the most stylish and flashy event to hit Runeterra. Legends of Runeterra is the first to step into the ring, but the Tournament of Souls is soon to take over Runeterra across every game you know. Check out the trailer below!

It’s a new season! Welcome to our second of three competitive seasons this year. There will be 3 Opens in the Heart of the Huntress Competitive Season:

Runeterra Point races for Worlds have been quite competitive! Overall, we’re happy with how the system is playing out, but saw some room for improvement. We’re making very slight adjustments to the Runeterra Points earned for the remaining Runeterra Opens this year, to better award consistency of Top cutting events!

Top 64-16 finishes at Opens will yield one more point in our remaining four Opens this year. This year, we want Tournament performance to be the major contributing factor in qualifications - this adjustment will help make that possible and feel better for competitors who top 64 Opens!

Ladder:

Welcome to a new Season of Ladder! With a new Season, we have new player titles for top finishes. This season, we will honor the one true kings coronation with our titles:

Top 8: Poro Knight

Top 100: Poro Squire

We’ve been working behind the scenes to craft the fairest and most competitive ladder system we can. Rather than tweaking the old system again, we’ve created a brand new system that will be more understandable to all players. This new system will address two major issues with the old system: LP inflation and ease of ranking, and punishing certain players who have higher matchmaking rating, or MMR.

In this new system live in patch 4.6 LP gains and losses in Masters will be based solely on the differential between your LP and your opponents.

While the new system addresses a multitude of issues, we thought it pertinent to also add soft resets to MMR each season. So, like with your rank resetting, your MMR will also soft reset at season start.

We’re also making very slight changes to Runeterra Points that are coming from ladder finishes. We want to award ladder performance, but don’t want to necessitate intensive grinding in order to compete for world Slots. This year, we’ve made a concerted effort to push competitive play into Tournaments - and are making the following changes:

Top 10: 5 Points (Removed)

Top 25: 4 Points

Top 50: 3 Points

Top 100: 2 Points

While this change barely adjusts the amount of points being given out, we think this flattens and evens out a necessity to play hundreds of games to accrue advantages over competitors.

New Feature: In Game Trophy Case

Show off your Badges and Titles in game you’ve earned through competition with our new in-game trophy case! Click on your opponents nameplate to inspect them, and if they seem chill, add them as a friend directly from the Trophy Case!

Miscellaneous

Starter Decks

Starter Decks are disappearing from the store, and will now be only obtainable by brand new players who play through the Prologue. For future rotations the Prologue decks will continue to be updated with a new standard-legal set of starter decks each year.

Realizations Refresh

A few weeks ago our team participated in "Jam Days", an internal event where our devs broke into groups and dove into some experiments around aspects of LoR they're super passionate about improving. One of those projects was spicing up some of our VFX and using some super cool spell effects in new ways. One of those improvements can be seen below, with some brand new animations added to Xerath and Darkin Weapons! If you see any of the other new spell effects or adjustments, tag us on @playruneterra with a clip!

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a few issues with VFX playing incorrectly.
• Fixed an issue with Ornn being unable to equip equipment when the player’s hand is full.
• Shard of Reverence will now display the correct description in all languages.
• Brash units with Challenger can no longer be blocked by units with 2 or less health if they had 3 or more health before committing.
• Fixed a few issues with “To play me, kill an ally” cards that required players to kill an extra ally if the card was played with a full backrow.
• Mysterious Portals will no longer summon followers with Plunder or Play effects that should only activate when playing from the hand.
• Fixed an issue causing some spells to incorrectly display health and power values.
• Fixed an issue that prevented Strike effects from triggering before a unit dies if Xerath is in play.
• Fixed small text formatting issues.
• Fixed an issue where mini-boss icons were not showing in Monthly Challenges Adventure panels.
• Fixed an issue where more than one Voidborne Carapace could be added to a player’s relic inventory.
• Fixed an issue where hitting the Android back button could close multiple panels at once.
• Fixed an issue where some players were not granted access to Monthly Challenges in the Path of Champions if they were beyond Legend Level 15 at release.
• Fixed an issue where event rewards were displayed during onboarding before a player could unlock access to the Event tab.
