STAGE OVERVIEW

The VCT EMEA Stage 1 Regular Season begins on February 11 with 12 teams — the four EMEA representatives from Champions 2021 and eight teams determined by two sets of open and closed qualifiers across EU, Turkey and CIS regions. These 12 teams will be sorted into two groups of six and compete in best-of-threes for a single round robin. The top three teams of each group advance to playoffs, while the bottom team from each group is sent to a promotion/relegation tournament.

The VCT EMEA Stage 1 Playoffs pit six teams in a double elimination, best-of-three bracket, shifting to best-of-fives for the lower bracket final and grand final. The two first seeds from groups will have first round byes, leaving the second and third seeds to face off in cross-group matchups.

OPEN AND CLOSED QUALIFIERS

Eight of the 12 teams competing in the VCT EMEA Stage 1 Regular Season will come from two sets of open and closed qualifiers in the EU, Turkey and CIS regions. These eight VCT teams will be comprised of four EU teams, two Turkish teams and two CIS teams.

Open Qualifier 1 begins on January 10 with a single elimination, best of three bracket capped at 256 teams per region. Seeding will be determined by VCT 2021 circuit points (if the roster is still eligible) and recent performance in non-VCT competition. Fans will be able to view the matches via live watch parties — four for the EU region, and two each for CIS and Turkey.

The top four teams will advance to Closed Qualifier 1 (January 13 - 16) and meet four directly invited teams determined by VCT 2021 circuit points (if roster still eligible) and recent performance in non-VCT competition. These eight teams will compete in a double elimination, best of three bracket, with the winner (CIS & TR) or top two (EU) qualifying for the VCT EMEA Stage 1 Regular Season. The 2nd - 5th place teams (CIS & TR) or 3rd - 6th place teams (EU) will be invited to Closed Qualifer 2.

Open Qualifier 2 begins on January 17 with a single elimination, best of three bracket capped at 256 teams per region. Seeding will be determined by performance at the first Open and Closed Qualifiers, plus other recent performance.

The top four teams will advance to Closed Qualifier 2 (January 20 - 23) and meet four directly invited teams from Closed Qualifier 1. These eight teams will compete in a double elimination, best of three bracket, with the winner (CIS & TR) or top two (EU) qualifying for the VCT EMEA Stage 1 Regular Season. Teams that don’t qualify to VCT from Closed Qualifier 2 will be eligible to receive higher seeding in a VRL qualifier if they choose to compete.
