VCT EMEA Challengers Promotion Tournament Begins April 1

Mar 29, 2022

Before VALORANT Esports fully shifts its attention to Masters 1 in Reykjavík, we’ve got more VCT EMEA stories and scores to settle. By finishing last in each of their respective VCT EMEA Challengers 1 groups, BIG and SuperMassive Blaze must fight to stay in EMEA’s premier league against seven VRL champions. When the dust settles, which two teams will join EMEA’s best for VCT Stage 2 Challengers?

Here’s all the details and info you’ll need to follow along as the VALORANT Challengers Promotion tournament kicks off this week!

TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

VALORANT Challengers Promotion is a nine-team tournament that consists of two competitive phases. In Tournament Phase 1, the seven VRL winners will be sorted into two groups — Group A and Group B — with the top two teams from each group advancing to Tournament Phase 2. With four teams, Group A will follow a GSL-style match schedule: two opening matches followed by a Loser’s Match, Winner’s Match and Decider Match. With three teams in Group B, the match format will be adjusted to a single best-of-three round robin, with the top team automatically advancing to Phase 2. Then, the two remaining teams will play a single best-of-three match to determine Groups B’s second Phase 2 qualifier.

In Phase 2, the four Phase 1 teams will join BIG and SuperMassive Blaze in a double-elimination bracket. BIG and SuperMassive Blaze will receive a bye in Round 1, playing the winners of the two Round 1 matches. The Round 1 games are both cross-group matchups — Group A winner vs. Group B runner up and Group B winner vs. Group A runner up. Each Phase 2 match will be best-of-three except the lower bracket final, which is best-of-five. As the top two finishers qualify for VCT EMEA Challengers Stage 2, the bracket’s grand final will not be played. In the event BIG or SuperMassive Blaze is relegated, they will join the VRL region they chose at the start of the VCT split.
