VCT Stage 2 - Challengers EMEA Week 3: Fnatic & GUILD reign supreme

May 31, 2022

OG LDN UTD also had a pretty good week, taking down G2 Esports and netting their first win of the tournament. NAVI also scored their debut victory, bringing BIG to their knees.

Missed any of the action? Or looking to relive the clash of EMEA’s best teams all over again? Here’s our recap of VCT Stage 2 Challengers EMEA Week 3.

Group A: Fnatic take down Acend in a battle for the ages

Week 3 was always going to be a good one for Group A, with reigning VCT Champions, Acend, facing off against their toughest competition, Fnatic. Unfortunately, it didn’t go Acend’s way, with Fnatic pulling out Turkish Initiator, Fade, on Ascent and annihilating the inaugural champions 13 - 4. Icebox sealed the deal for Acend, relegating them to the middle of the standings as Fnatic pulled ahead.

FunPlus Phoenix sits alongside them at the upper end of the table, taking down DACH: Evolution winners FOKUS in a sweeping series. While Breeze looked somewhat competitive, the German squad was put down by Dmitry ‘SUYGETSU’ Ilyushin’s insane plays on Viper and Sage, proving once again why he’s EMEA’s premier Sentinel player.

OG LDN UTD also came out swinging this week, surprising onlookers with their 2 - 1 victory over EMEA’s resident samurai, G2 Esports. In a hard-fought series, the squad eventually took down G2 on Fracture, causing one of this week’s biggest upsets.

Group B: GUILD rise and Liquid fall

As soon as we saw GUILD and Liquid pitted against one another to open Week 3, we knew for a fact it was going to be a banger. Going the full three maps, Liquid took one game off of the top dogs by utilizing the Fade to their advantage, but ultimately were felled by Britain's finest in an anti-climatic defeat on Fracture.

Where Liquid stumbled M3C dominated, propelling themselves into joint second by taking down BBL. With Ayaz ‘nAts’ Akhmetshin doing, well, nAts things, the squad took down BBL 2 - 0 despite their use of pocket pick, Neon.
