G2 Gozen suffer their first loss since 2021

If you went into Game Changers Series 3 assuming G2 Gozen would probably walk away with the title, you’d be entirely forgiven. The team’s reign of dominance seemed neverending, but Guild X has always been out to challenge them and take the EMEA throne.

Gozen actually beat Guild X in the upper bracket semifinals, sending the squad down to the lower bracket with a quick win on the final map, Pearl. As Gozen went on to beat NAVI Celestials 2-0, Guild X took down Acend Rising, TENSTAR Nova, and NAVI in a series of hard-fought games. Guild X was forced to fight their way to the top once more, determined to hand Berlin’s samurai squad the L.

And that’s exactly what they did. In a highly competitive five-map series, G2 started well, winning the first map, Bind (their map pick), but were punished heavily on the second map, Fracture, where they only managed to take three rounds. They pulled it back on Pearl with a convincing win yet again, but things quickly went downhill. Ascent and Icebox both went in favor of Guild X, with Neslişah ‘Ness’ Demir putting on a show on her pocket pick, Viper, while also bringing out Omen. Walking away from the final map Icebox with a hefty 21 kills, the Turkish titan choked out the competition in a style that would make the American chemist herself go green with envy.

With the inaugural VCT Game Changers Championship on the horizon, will we see G2 Gozen return in style, hungry for the win? Or will Guild X continue to prove a thorn in their side? We’ll have to wait and see. Either way, it’s set to be truly absolutely awesome.
