It’s time zip and zap into Wild Rift’s first patch of the year! Zoe makes her debut, All Random Ultra Rapid Fire (ARURF) mode returns, Lunar New Year celebrations, Ranked S8, a new Wild Pass, and much more! Welcome to Patch 4.0!
Zip Zap—It’s Patch 4.0!
Happy Lunar New Year and welcome to the first patch of 2023! We’re back with a new patch, and patch notes with the same ole’ dad jokes you know and love. If mischief, mayhem, and magic were a part of your New Year’s Resolutions, Zoe is making her debut and can lend a hand with that. Steal spells and snipe your foes with sparkle and glitter when this Mid Lane mage portals into your game. We’re big Zoe fans here, we sure hope she wins!
Whether you like to fight for honor and glory or you live for the thrill of putting yourself in grave danger, Ranked S8 and a new Wild Pass should help you get your fill. And of course, what's a celebration without some fireworks? We’re bringing back All Random Ultra Rapid Fire Mode (ARURF), and decking out the Rift with lanterns, fireworks, a special slay effect, and of course a Lunar New Year themed canon! You’ll also be able to gather your friends together to prepare cozy dishes in our Lunar Feast event and visit Caitlyn in the Mythmaker Workshop! And of course you can’t have patch notes without some balance changes! We also have our update for our tanky friends.
To see what other content is still to come throughout this patch cycle, check out our latest patch preview:
Also as a note, you can expect to see the changes to turrets and inhibitors in one of the balance patches coming in the following weeks!
We want to wish you a Happy Lunar New Year again. We hope you have a great 2023 and enjoy hoping into some games with your friends and families this year. We’ll see ya on the Rift!
Reminder: content will be released throughout the patch.
As the embodiment of mischief, imagination, and change, Zoe acts as the cosmic messenger of Targon, heralding major events that reshape worlds. Her mere presence warps the arcane mathematics governing realities, sometimes causing cataclysms without conscious effort or malice. This perhaps explains the breezy nonchalance with which Zoe approaches her duties, giving her plenty of time to focus on playing games, tricking mortals, or otherwise amusing herself. An encounter with Zoe can be joyous and life affirming, but it is always more than it appears and often extremely dangerous.
Zoe will be released on January 12 at 00:01 UTC.
It’ll be a grave mistake if you try to step up to this villain, unless you're quick on the draw! Heist your way through this Wild Pass and Super Villain Graves will be all yours! Of course you’ll also be able to earn plenty of other goodies along the way! And if you’re still itching for more, you can earn Ascended Super Villain Graves and more in the Bonus Rewards Shop.
Wild Pass will be available on January 12 at 00:01 UTC.
It’s time to wave goodbye to Ranked S7 and dive into Ranked S8! Glorious Crimson Nami will be making a splash in this season’s Season Rewards Tab! You’ll also be able to purchase her Weapon Augment Upgrade and other goodies from the Ranked Store! To spruce up things for S8 we’ve made a new and immersive layout to the Ranked Mode Select that will celebrate your best champions and most recent stats. We also made some improvements to the Ranked Reward Tracker and Ranked Store contents, aka more fun stuff to earn as you make your climb! Good luck this season!
Ranked S8 will begin on January 16 at 7:00 PM PST.
Ever wondered if you’re the best Mid Laner in your friend group? Or if you’re a better Support than your bestie? Well, now you can prove it! We’ve added a Role Leaderboard, where you can compare your role score with your friends. You’ll also be able to now see the top players for each role in your region, with the best of the best even receiving a special title!
Along with the new update, we’ve also adjusted how role scores work. At the start of each new ranked season, your role scores will reset. But don’t worry, you’ll gain a boost for role score gains in the future based on your performance from the previous season so you can still climb to the top!
Xbox Login is live with this patch! You can now login in to your account using your Xbox login. The Xbox Gampass is also live, and subscribers will receive in-game benefits—all Wild Rift champions unlocked and a 20% XP boost!
When Patch 4.0 launches, we will be deprecating our support for older devices that use the ETC texture format. If this affects you, you’ll receive a notification and email from us!
To celebrate Lunar New Year we’ll be bringing back a classic: All Random Ultra Rapid Fire Mode! Queue up and play a completely random champion with super-speedy spells, just don’t forget to stretch those thumbs before hopping in a cannon!
And what’s a party without any decorations? We’re going all out for our Lunar New Year celebrations and decking out the Rift with fireworks, lanterns, and even a Lunar New Year themed cannon! We’re also adding a new effect for the holiday—whenever you slay a foe, fireworks will shoot into the air!
During All Random Ultra Rapid Fire Mode (ARURF), we’re introducing a new mechanic: Execute Smite. It will function passively for junglers and free up a spell slot. This version of Smite still retains the core smite passives, but does not upgrade to Chilling Smite and has no cooldown. We’ll be keeping an eye out on how this performs for possible future use!
All Random Ultra Rapid Fire (ARURF) mode begins January 12 at 00:01 UTC and ends Feb 02 at 00:01 UTC.

Gather your friends and serve up some cozy dishes!
The Lunar Feast event begins January 12 at 00:01 UTC.
Camille has always been in a tough spot, with a kit that is both a boon and a curse. In the right hands, Camille is a terror with little counterplay—but for newer players, her mechanics can be daunting. We want to lower both her skill floor and ceiling, which will make her more approachable for players aspiring to master this precise Baron Laner, while keeping her in check for the best of the best.
In order to improve the feel of Corki’s Phosphorus Bomb in the later stages of the game and get him all spooled up, we’re updating this ability so that it scales with his attack speed.
While we previously stated this Bladesurge change was going live, it actually didn’t make it into the patch. We’re fixing it for real this time… hopefully.
Kha’Zix is still at the top of the food chain in the jungle, so we’re reducing his single target damage so that we can give other junglers a chance to shine.
Kai’Sa is underperforming when compared to her Dragon Lane peers, we want to a-void keeping her too isolated from her peers so we’re giving The Daughter of the Void a handful of buffs. Including an update to Void Seeker that allows its cast time to scale with Kai’Sa’s attack speed.
While Lillia landed on the Rift in a healthy spot, players continue to grow fawnder over her and their mastery for this doe has grown over time, causing her win rates to bloom out of control. We’re lowering her scaling health to emphasize her late game positioning, while nerfing the damage on Blooming Blows to take her jungle power down a notch.
To give Miss Fortune a little more shock and awe, we’re increasing the viability of her Ability Powered builds by buffing the Ability Power ratios associated with Make it Rain and her ultimate, Bullet Time.
We’ve never wanted to make a snappy decision when it comes to buffing Renekton in the earlier stages of the game. We know just how much power and dominance this playstyle can bring, especially from players at higher levels. But after seeing the results of some of our previous changes, we’re ready to navi-gator our way around these changes, and give Renekton back some of the lane sustain that he’s been missing.
This Desert Rose is performing below our expectations across all levels of play. So, we’re increasing the damage dealt by her Flair ability to bring her more in line with fellow marksmen.
The buffs we gave this Kinkou in patch 3.5a have pushed him over the line in the Jungle. We’re reducing some of the bonus damage that he deals to monsters with Twilight Assault in order to reduce his clear speed and knock him down a peg.
Fellow junglers have been performing head and smolders above Shyvana, so we’re giving her a boost in a few different areas to help her out.
The Mad Chemist is performing decently in lane, but his scaling isn’t quite where we want it to be. We’re increasing his Poison Trail Ability Power ratio to prevent him from falling off so quickly later on. We’re also making a few other adjustments to open up more build paths and options for Singed.
Last time we took a look at Sion, we had to say sionara to some of his unstoppable power, however we’ve been keeping an eye on him and he could use a hand. So, we’re targeting a few different areas where we think the satisfaction of his kit could be improved.
Are you a tanky support that’s tired of rushing movespeed? Do you prefer more combat presence over map rotations? Well today is the dawn of a new day and item for you! Dawnshroud provides area of effect damage and reveals whether you’re immobilizing an enemy champion, or tanking an immobilize effect for your team.

Need more anti-crit in your life? How about an anti-crit item that heals back life? While the numbers on the new Determination passive may seem underwhelming compared to its previous iteration, the keyword here is “pre-mitigation”. In practice, tanks will fare better against critical damage–as long as they’re on the offensive. Armed with the new Randuin’s Omen, you are filled with Determination.*

We’re increasing the power of Frozen Heart’s Attack Speed slow, but making it conditional. This iteration rewards tanks that stay on the offensive, while also providing foes with some counterplay to the item.*

It’s difficult to justify buying Cosmic Drive when you’re on a heavy Ability Power scaling champion, because it gives a low amount of Ability Power for such a high cost. So we told the shopkeeper to bring down the cost and upping the Ability Power to make it more competitive with other mage items.
This item is a little too gold efficient for its stats, so we’re increasing its overall cost.
Live Morellonomicon has been incorrectly giving 75 Ability Power when it was intended to be 70, and it could also use a small nerf, so we’re going to move it back to its intended value.
In a world with real competition for more champions in the percentage armor penetration slot, Mortal Reminder hasn’t been holding its weight. We’re doing a light buff here to help it compete with the other options.
Adding shields to Spirit Visage’s passive is a straightforward buff, and should increase its synergy with many more abilities.
Pathfinder is currently underperforming amongst other Inspiration Runes, so we’re amping up the mobility that it provides while you’re in the river.
The new Phase Rush has done pretty well since its launch, but we don’t want you to feel forced to try to use your ultimate during the Phase Rush window just so you can capitalize on the maximized haste gained. Instead, we’re going to buff it and remove its interaction with ultimates.
Previously, any situation in which a champion gets both bonus Attack Damage and Ability Power results in them losing the value of the lower stat when hitting structures. This is because of a specific rule involved in structure damage calculation. We’re changing the way that offensive stats interact with structures so that hybrid builds and situations involving dual stats or bonuses no longer punish you for having both Attack Damage and Ability Power.
